The stir-fry disaster (and what it taught me)
By Tiffany Dawson | June 21, 2026

A few weeks ago, I decided I was going to nail a stir-fry night. Rice on the stove, veggies prepped, feeling good about myself.
At first, small things started going sideways. The rice boiled over and left a sticky mess all over the stovetop. Then I realized I had grabbed couscous instead of quinoa — not exactly the same thing.
Then it got worse. I was almost done when I discovered I was missing a key ingredient I was sure I had bought. Cue a last-minute sprint to Aldi before I could even finish dinner.
By the time I got back and thought I had my rhythm again, my spouse walked in with a “quick question.” And just like that — I completely lost my place in the recipe.
And now I know that the real secret isn’t being a perfect cook. It’s having simple, foolproof meals and the right products that make it hard to go too wrong, even on a chaotic night.
Why am I sharing this?
Because when it comes to getting a good meal on the table for your family, it’s okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to try new things and have them fall apart a little. That’s just cooking — and life.
I’m proud of you for working toward nourishing your family without the stress, and not being afraid to do it imperfectly so that one day it just… feels easy.
Good for you.
